Gillingham are still to find themselves a new striker with the club having failed to score in their past two games.
With Adam Birchall ruled out until the New Year and Danny Kedwell suffering from a slight ankle injury, the Gills are lacking striking options with Dennis Oli and Stefan Payne still lacking match fitness.
Tuesday night’s planned friendly at Deal Town had to be called off due to a waterlogged pitch, throwing Andy Hessenthaler’s plans to give Payne and Oli a game out of the window.
With Accrington Stanley set to visit Priestfield on Saturday, Gillingham could do with adding at least a striker to the squad with fans already beginning to become restless.
Jack Payne is also set to be on the sidelines for about a month having damaged his medial knee ligaments, while keeper Paulo Gazzaniga has got a suspected case of the mumps.
There has been better news about midfielder Danny Spiller though who has returned to training this week having had the illness that has been running through the squad over the past few weeks.
Should Spiller be deemed fit enough to start this weekend, it could see a reshuffle in midfield with Danny Jackman a contender to replace Jack Payne in the holding midfield role. That would see a recall to the starting line up for Joe Martin who was dropped to the bench for the game against Shrewsbury Town last weekend.
Whoever Hessenthaler decides to start with this weekend, he will be looking for a more determined display with the emphasis having been put on fitness during training this week.
